Milan, Italy, 2 October, 2010 – Serbia vs Mexico press conference
Mexico captain Gerardo Contreras: We’re a little upset but happy, considering the level of Volleyball in Mexico. Qualifying for the tournament and the second round is an achievement in itself. It will hopefully open up a new chapter in the history of Volleyball in our country. It was an honour to have shared the court with such great champions.
Mexico coach Jorge Azair Lopez: Congratulations Serbia, we knew we were below Serbia in terms of physical strength, which is what decided the outcome of the match. We hope our performances will encourage Volleyball players in Mexico. Our aim is to let the whole world know Volleyball exists in our country! Though we’re not exactly happy, at least we can relax now.
Serbia captain Nikola Grbic: We knew it would be tough and that we had to win if we wanted to come out on top. That’s why we were too tense in the first set and made a lot of errors. In the second and third we focused more, and I’m happy with the result.
Serbia coach Igor Kolakovic: We’re thrilled to have got through to the third round. You never know what the outcome of a match will be, even though it looked like an easy tie in theory. We played the way we were supposed to, in a serious way. Only the first set was harder than the others for us, because Mexico stepped up their game a notch.
