Turin, Italy, September 26, 2010 - France defeated Bulgaria 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 28-30, 19-17 in an emotional battle on Sept. 26 in a key match during the 2010 FIVB World Championship Pool E first round being held at PalaRuffini Hall in Turin, Italy.
Oliver Kieffer (France Captain): "I am very happy with winning the match. Bulgaria is a very strong, physical and technical team. With the fifth set battle, the match could have had a much different result."
Vladimir Nikolov (Bulgaria Captain): "My congratulations to France for its victory. I am sorry for the results. France has always been a very difficult team to defeat. However, tomorrow is another match."
Philippe Blain (France Head Coach): "Today's match was very important for both teams, and it was a beautifully played match. Both teams are very strong. Always in these cases, the winner is happier at the end."
Silvano Prandi (Bulgaria Head Coach): "Congratulations to France for this victory. They were stronger on the court today. Now we will get some rest and concentrate on the match tomorrow."
From the Mixed Zone:
Bulgaria's Matey Kaziyski: "We are very tired. After five sets, we are human. Tomorrow we will play to win versus Czech Republic, even if the new formula is a little bit strange. We need some time to be used to it."
France's Pierre Pujol: "The match was very difficult. The Bulgarians are physically stronger than us. We had good receiving, but we made too many errors - especially in the fourth set. In the last one there we were a little lucky. Kaziynski is a very good player. Tomorrow we’ll have an important match with China and we’ll play to win, even if we’re very tired. It is too early to determine who will be ahead of the Pool, as the street is long yet. New formula is very long and tiring and we need to have some matches before being used about it.”
