Japan captain Kota Yamamura: "We knew this match against the hosts was going to be difficult and we are sorry we did not manage to get the most out of the game."
Japan coach Tatsuya Ueta: "We had many problems in reception since the beginning and we did not manage to recover."
Talking about Yamamura’s performance: "This was perhaps the first important match for this player in an international event, he recovered from an injury and I personally believe he managed to play a good match."
Describing the problems at reception the team had to cope with: "I think blocking did not help reception over the entire match."
Discussing Fukuzawa’s performance: "He probably didn't manage to create the perfect rhytm with the setter who has also recently come back after an injury."
Italy coach Andrea Anastasi: "I am obviously very happy as we managed to win the first match as host country, we must maintain high standards for the most difficult matches but we must focus on a daily basis therefore we will just think about the match against Egypt."
Discussing the performance of the Japanese team: "I personally believe that we improved a lot and this created some problems for our opponents. Japan is a really good team and today they had to face a team that was always extremely focused on the game. As far as the next matches are concerned, I think Egypt has a quick game strategy and I am sure that it will be a difficult match that we will have to be prepared for."
Italy captain Valerio Vermiglio: "After last season and as we are playing in our own country, it was a match full of emotions therefore I think we were really good at keeping our stress under control."
