Puerto Rico coach Carlos Cardona:
“We had many mistakes but we were happy to win this game. We needed this victory to move closer to advancing to the second round. I ask my players to concentrate more. We made 8 or 9 mistakes per set, but then we were able to win. So we have gone ahead one step, but we do need to move forward because our goal is to get even further in the upcoming round. We made the same simple mistakes today as we made against Italy yesterday, and we have to correct those mistakes. Our team lacks height. Therefore, we need to work with our speed before the blocking takes place. We need to make our blocking and defense techniques even better than what we are doing right now. We are making mistakes on the easiest moves, so we have to improve this as well.”
Puerto Rico captain Vilmarie Mojica:
“We could improve our skills compared to yesterday’s game, and be stronger inside. We could focus and concentrate on our game. To go to the second round games in Tokyo, we need to be more focused on our own playing.”
Kenya coach Hidehiro Irisawa:
“Our team condition is good, especially the reception is much better than yesterday. We could play as well as I expected on defense. But sometimes during the game we stopped calling each other’s names, and we lost our aggressive spirit. This is what we need to improve to be a better team. On the whole, we did much better than yesterday.”
Kenya captain Brackcides Khadambi:
This game is a good game. We got a lead against Puerto Rico, but after that we made simple mistakes, especially in the second set. It was difficult for us to recover from behind.
