Serbia captain Nikola Grbic: “I did not expect to win that easily, especially after Germany had won two out of the three matches they played against Brazil. Tonight we played with the right confidence and I think our approach was the turning point that decided the match in our favour. I am sure Germany can play much better than this, starting tomorrow in their game with Poland”.
Serbia coach Igor Kolakovic: “We are very happy with this victory especially since I was pretty afraid of the German national team after their excellent performances this season, particularly in the friendly games against Brazil played only a few days before the start of the World Championship. We played really well in defence and since our reception was very solid, we could even go for high balls in attack.”
Germany captain Björn Andrae: “We are really disappointed, this was not just a 3-0 defeat but we also played a very bad game. We do not have that much time to regroup but we definitely need to up the level and quality of our performance as quickly as possible. We hope that we’re able to bring this tomorrow to the match against Poland. We have a very young team, ten of our guys played their first game ever at a World Championship tonight, so this had an additional impact on our poor performance.”
Germany coach Raoul Lozano: "I would sub-divide this game into two phases. In the first two sets we stayed very close but the difference was our errors whereas Serbia played perfectly with almost no errors at all, especially in the final rush. On the other hand we could not play at all in the third set and that resulted in such a massive margin. Of course we want to play at the same level we did in our friendly games against Brazil but here this is a totally different story and scenario. We are at the World Championship but most of all tonight Serbia played a marvelous game and simply we could not find our rhythm.”
