Russia coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin: Before we started I had concerns about how we would play. I won't comment on the quality of play but I am happy that we won. My concerns were that the players are not robots, they are humans. We have 3-5 new players and the composition of the squad is different from four years ago. Gamova and Sokolova our the pillars of our team and they showed why today.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: We did good on the attack in the first set. We concentrated well. They were strong on blocking. We have a lot of work to do. We served well in the first set. We were very aggressive. But Russia had many options in attack.
Russia player Ekaterina Gamova: My attacks were being blocked in the first set, but after that my spikes worked better. They were very motivated in the first set. We did not do a good job of warming up. I intend to get better as time goes on.
Dominican captian Milagros Cabral: I thought we had a chance after the first set, but they came back strong. We must improve.
