Coaches optimistic and satisfied in Tijuana

L-R: Coaches Godinez (CRC), Jimenez (MEX), Ludwig (CAN) and Cruz (TRI).
Tijuana, Mexico, August 27, 2009 - The coaches of the four national teams represented in the NORCECA Playoff Round for the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship shared their opinions and ideas prior to the start of the competition on Friday.

Arnd Ludwig of Canada, Braulio Godinez of Costa Rica, Francisco Jiménez Espitia of Mexico and Francisco "Panchi" Cruz of Trinidad & Tobago, all pronounced their teams ready to fight for the two last tickets up for grabs for the teams of the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA).

Following are excerpts from the press conference:

Arnd Ludwig (CAN): We have a tough loss with the injury of setter Larissa Cundy, who suffered a setback while working out here. It is a big blow but we have worked with two other young players and if they can play the same as they have in practice, I think they will do a good job. It is going to be a tough competition.

Braulio Godinez (CRC): The expectations are very high. We have had the preparation of the Pan American Cup in Miami where we faced Mexico, a team with some changes in personnel and staff, Trinidad & Tobago and Canada, a strong team we lost to.

Francisco Jiménez Espitia (MEX): There is a great expectation because this is the first time I have coached the national team even though I have worked as an assistant. It is a great opportunity for me and a great motivation and we have prepared very well and look for the best result possible for Mexico.

Francisco Cruz (TRI): To reach the last elimination round is a great achievement for a young team like ours. In the three years that I have been with the girls I can say that I feel very proud to be here.

The action kicks off on Friday at 17:00 (PDT) at Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR) with Canada versus Costa Rica followed by the clash between Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago.
