Brazil and Peru claim final round tickets

Cabo Frio, Brazil, August 28, 2005 – A stunning 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-22) win over Argentina on Sunday saw Brazil claim the 2006 Women’s World Championship first round tournament – South America Pool A - and advance to the final round along with Peru, who finished second.

Peru beat Ecuador 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-13) on Sunday to move into second place with a 3-1 win-loss record and collect their second of two final round tickets on offer at the tournament. Argentina finished third (2-2) while Uruguay (1-3) and Ecuador (0-4) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

South America had only two vacancies in the final round of the 2006 Women’s World Championship and Brazil and Peru complete the full 24-team line up with Japan (hosts), Italy (defending champions), Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon, USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Korea, Kazakhstan, China, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Serbia & Montenegro, Azerbaijan, Russia, The Netherlands, Turkey and Poland having already advanced.
