Santo Domingo, Dominican Rep, August 25, 2005 – Hosts, the Dominican Republic, collected their second straight victory at the 2006 Women’s World Championship second round tournament (NORCECA E) on Thursday after beating Guatemala 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-11) while favourites Cuba opened their account with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-14) win over Jamaica.

After beating Costa Rica 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-20) on the opening day, the Dominican Republic now top the five-team table with Guatemala in second place with a win and a loss (Guatemala beat Jamaica 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 25-7) on Wednesday) and Cuba in third.

The top three finishers in the tournament will advance to the final round of the 2006 World Championships as members of the NORCECA zone.

USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico secured the first three NORCECA slots for the World Championships at the “NORCECA D” World Championship second round tournament in Puerto Rico earlier this month.
