Netherlands and Turkey win to set up crucial matches on Saturday

Ankara, Turkey, August 5, 2005 - On the first day of the Womens third round of 2006 World Championships in pool EUR-H, the favorites the Netherlands and Turkey beat Ukraine and Belgium respectively. Therefore, Ukraine and Belgium will play their last cards on Saturday for going to Japan directly, while Turkey and the Netherlands will try to assure their tickets.

The Netherlands beat Ukraine 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21). Selinger Avital said that they made a good start to the tournament and Dushkyevich Yevgeniya stated that even though they knew the Netherlands were a powerful team, they were disappointed.

In the second match, Turkey beat Belgium 3-1(25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20). Turkey coach Yazıcıogulları Resat said that his team was very tired because of consecutive tournaments and he hoped to guarantee to go to Japan directly by winning on Saturday. De Brandt Jan declared that his team should learn a lot and they need to improve their reception.
