Turkey ready to host another World Championship event
Ankara,
Turkey, August 4, 2005 - After having organized the
Women's U20 World Championships successfully last month,
Turkey is ready for another great event. The host team
Turkey, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Belgium will fight
for two tickets to the finals of the 2006 Women's World
Championship in a third round tournament starting on
Friday.
Three teams, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Belgium
arrived in Ankara on Tuesday for the three day
competition which finishes on Sunday.
Turkey and the Netherlands, who finished ninth in
Germany in the 2002 Women's World Championship, were
automatically seeded for this tournament while the
Ukraine advanced from the second round as the top team
of pool EUR-E in Greece which was held in June.
Belgium, meanwhile, have had a dream run in the
tournament so far having advanced from the second round
where they finished second in EUR-D in Azerbaijan in May
before having been the second team of the first round
tournament in EUR-C in France in the same month.
After this tournament, the first and the second team of
the group (EUR-H) will book a ticket to participate in
the finals of the 2006 World Championships in Japan. The
third team will play in the play-off which will take
place in Bulgaria from August 19-21 for the seventh
European ticket to Japan. |
