Tunisia secure a World Championship berth
Tunis,
Tunisia, July 30, 2005 - Hosts Tunisia secured the last
African vacancy in the 2006 Men's World Championship
final round in Japan after their third victory in the
African Pool C second round tournament in the Tunisian
capital of Algeria to win the tournament without
dropping a set.
Tunisia used the home crowd to their advantage to
collect a comfortable victory over Algeria 25-12, 25-23,
25-16 using the artistry of the setter and team captain
Ghazi Guidara who used his fine setting to allow his
spikers - especially Noureddine Hfaiedh and Hosni
Karamosly - to dominate the net action all through the
match.
South Africa continued their surprise performance by
collecting their second victory, beating Morocco 3-0
(25-23, 26-24, 25-20) to secure the second position in
the four team tournament with five points in front of
Algeria and Morocco. The South African spikers Freedom
Chiya and Thokozani Ntuij played a fantastic match and
had a great role in the victory.
