Venezuela take charge in Caracas

Venezuela, July 23, 2005 – Favourites Venezuela
won their second match from as many games after beating
Peru 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-15) on Saturday at the 2006 Men’s World Championship
South American
first round tournament – Pool B in Caracas.
After beating Colombia 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23)
on Friday, Venezuela now lead the four-team tournament
and are on the verge of claiming the one ticket on offer
to the winner fo the tournament for a place in the final
round.
Venezuela, ranked 10th in the world, just need to beat
bottom placed Ecuador on Sunday to confirm their ticket.
Colombia are second in the group with one win and a
defeat - equal with Peru- after beating Ecuador 3-0
(25-15, 25-14, 25-18) on Saturday. Peru beat Ecuador 3-2
(21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 15-8) on Friday.
Day three of the tournament sees Colombia play Peru 20:00 GMT (16:00 local time) followed by
Venezuela's match against Ecuador at 22:00 GMT
(18:00 local time).
