Algeria go top of the table

Nairobi, Kenya, July 22, 2005 – With Kenya having a rest day, Algeria took advantage to go to the top of the five-team table at the 2006 Women’s World Championship African first round tournament – Pool B in Nairobi, Kenya after they beat DRC Congo  3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-13) on Friday.

Friday's other match saw Congo Brazaville win for the first time when they beat Eritrea 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-7).

Algeria, who have three wins from three matches, have the rest day on Saturday, so Kenya, who have won two from two, could draw level when they play Eritrea on Saturday.

The winner of the five day tournament will advance to the final round as the third and final African ticket winner joining Egypt and Cameroon who have already won their respective first round tournaments.

Day four of the tournament sees Congo Brazaville play DRC Congo at 11:00 GMT (14:00 local time) followed by Kenya's match against Eritrea at 13:00 GMT (16:00 local time).
