Teams release Kenya arrival dates

Nairobi, Kenya, July 12, 2005 - The national Volleyball teams participating in the third and final 2006 Women’s World Championship first round tournament in Africa - Pool B, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from July 20-24 have confirmed their arrival dates.

Eritrea, who will be jetting in from Dubai with a contingent of 16 people is due to arrive on July 18, while Congo Brazzaville, with a contingent of 17 people, and DRC Congo will both be travelling from Kinshasa and arrive on July 19. Only Algeria have not confirmed their arrival time as they are currently in their final preparation programme in Egypt having participated in the Mediterranean Games in Almeria, Spain only 10 days ago.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Secretary General, Jacob Owiti held a press conference for the competition announcing the great importance of this international tournament. He was accompanied by KVF President Ibrahim Efumbi, KVF Vice President Mrs. Grace Minja and KVF Sports Organizing Secretary Walter Otieno.

Mr Owiti, who thanked the world volleyball governing body FIVB for helping with preparations for the tournament which included a VIS course, pointed out that they have put everything in place to ensure that the tournament is a success.

“This tournament is not local league, it is a world class tournament whose success will go along way in improving Kenya’s rating as far as hosting major sports events and that is why we are appealing to the government and all other stakeholders to come forward and give us support,” Owiti said.
