FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

"We are the best in the world," says Serbia's Kovacevic

Serbia's Uros Kovacevic and coach Sinisa Reljic after their win over Japan

Serbia coach Sinisa Reljic:

"Game was very interesting, especially the team of Japan. It was my first match against them. They played so motivated even when they were losing. On the other hand, we played very well today. It was the last game and our players are so motivated because tomorrow they go home. And about the competition we think we should have played in Ankara. System can be little bit strange, we won seven matches and lost one. We have the quality for the first five places, for sure. But okay, we lost one game we go home with ninth place. "

Serbia team captain Uros Kovacevic:

"I must say that this is my last match in young generation volleyball after five years. I am happy to finish this tournament with a victory. Today we played very well from the start of the each set. We showed Japan that we are better than them. Team of Japan have a great atmosphere, great energy. It was really a pleasure to play against them. For sure we are one of the best teams here. This tournament was unlucky for us because of the only match we lost in seven victories. But I must say, Serbia as a national team is the best in the world, we have a very good young generation. We have independent championships in Europe, we are Olympic champions, we are the best in the world."

Japan coach Noriaki Sako:

"Today's match was good. My players tried to do their best but Serbia is a strong team."

Japan Masahiro Sekita:

"Serbia is very strong but we did our best to finish this championship in a best way."
