FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

We were afraid to play Turkey, but so were they - coach Faure

The two coaches are already thinking about their next games tomorrow

Ankara, Turkey, August 30, 2013 – France defeated Turkey by 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 27-25) in the last quarterfinal match at the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in Ankara.  These are the post-game statements of the two teams’ coaches and captains.

Umit Hizal, coach of Turkey: “Actually, we were ready for this match. But we could not resist. They played well in the breaking moments of the match and they broke our balance. Now we will try to finish this championship in the best possible place.”

Baturalp Burak Gungor, captain of Turkey: “They made few mistakes and that is why they won. We did not think that we may lose this match. However, the championship is not over yet. We will do our best to finish the championship in fifth place.”

Stephane Faure, coach of France: ”We were afraid of playing against the Turkish team in Turkey. We knew that they would fight a lot and that is why we were afraid in the beginning. But then it became obvious that Turkey were afraid as well. They managed to keep the pressure through the whole match, they were able to receive well and it was the key point of this match.  But we managed to play our game today. We will play against Russia in the next match and we will try to take revenge from them. We hope to win.”

Trevor Clevenot, captain of France: ”It was not too difficult to play against Turkey today, but it depended on the context of the game.
