Our chances against Iran are slim – coach Abouzeid

If Egypt had won the third set, they would have classified third for a possibly easier opponent in the next round

Ankara, Turkey, August 26, 2013 – As Egypt anticipate a Round of 16 match against Iran, their coach sees slim chances beating the strong opponent.  Meanwhile the Moroccans are very happy about their 3-2 (18-25, 16-25, 25-23, 32-30, 15-11) victory over their North African archrivals and are already looking forward to more exploits in Izmir.  These are the post-match statements from the coaches and the captains.

Gaber Abouzeid, coach of Egypt: “After the first two sets we did not play well as all players felt very tired. They did not maintain their spirit especially after winning the second set.  My team believed we would win and relaxed. But this is volleyball and we should not give up on the court. We are fourth now and our chances are small because we will play against Iran and they are a very strong team.  The match against them will be very difficult for us.”

Islam Abdelkader, captain of Egypt: “We did this.  It is a pity that we had a lot of chances today, but we could not use them. I do not really understand why my team did what we did.”

Brahim Bouchdouk, coach of Morocco: “We had a slow start of the match. But later we played better. We really wanted to win this match in order to complete our pool with a win. I am so happy that we did this. Congratulations to my players!”

Zouhair El Graoui, captain of Morocco: “We did not manage to start this match well, but came from behind and won the match. I am so happy for taking such a good victory. We will try to do our best in Izmir.”
