Press release

"We demonstrate our strength," says Serbia's Kovacevic

Serbia's coach Sinisa Reljic and captain Uros Kovacevic showing their emotions after beating Canada

Serbia coach Sinisa Reljic:

“We took every match seriously. We know that Canada is a tough team. I think the reason we lost the first set was the time of the match. It was early for us. After the first set, we warmed up to the game. Without good service you can't play on the high level. We pushed Canada today. In the next round we will try to be at the best performance.”

Serbia captain Uros Kovacevic:

“Canada played very well. Canadian service was good. We demonstrated again the power of our team. I think we proved that we are much better than Canada. We know that Canada have good service but they did a lot of mistakes. We had some mistakes too but we bounced back in a short time. We had good practice in every element of the game. We deserved the win today.”

Canada coach David Gordon Preston:

"After the first set pressure of serving had changed. We missed many serves in the last three sets which is s potential thirty points. It is too much against any team, especially against a team like Serbia. We serve well in the last three sets. Because of our strength in defence and transition we couldn’t have enough opportunity to play a good game. We attacked too many balls in last three sets so they put a lot of serving pressure on us which reduced our offensive power."

Canada team captain Milan Nikic:

"First set we played Canadian volleyball. We were loud and energetic. I think we did a good job on serving and putting pressure upon them. However, we had too many mistakes. Serbia kept the pressure, this made us play volleyball. Tough team like Serbia, we can't make much mistakes against. Right now we are focusing on our next matches."
