Turkey have yet to lose a set in Pool A as they claim their third straight-set win

Three out of three for Turkey after they shut out Egypt

Ankara, Turkey, August 24, 2013 – The team of Turkey have once again pleased the home crowd at Baskent Volleyball Hall in Ankara.  The local heroes claimed their third straight-set win at the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in Turkey as they shut out Egypt by 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-13).

Turkey survived a very tough first set, in which Egypt was in the lead most of the time.  The African team even had a four-point advantage at 22-18, but the home heroes persevered to pull it through to the final 26-24.  The second set was a similar story.  Egypt’s setter Mahmoud Elnagar found new ways to surprise the Turkish blockers and his team’s attacking efforts paid off with another solid lead.  Eventually the home guys found the way to stop the Egyptian offence and also taking advantage of the opponents’ mistakes once again turned things around to win by a two-point difference – 25-23.  Set three was no contest as the North African side seemed to have lost the faith that they could be successful in this game.  Turkey established

total control of the scoreboard and won the set by an impressive 25-13 with substitute player Yasin Aydin spiking beautifully for the last point.

Shortly before the end a ball hit Turkey’s captain Baturalp Burak Gungor in the face and he had to sit out the rest of the match.

Metin Toy’s 11 points for Turkey put him on the top of the scorers’ chart of the match.  Mostafa Abdelrahman tallied 8 points to become Egypt’s most prolific player in the game.
