FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

"We are one of the best teams in the world now, so we have to win," says Serbia's captain

Serbia's captain Uros Kovacevic gives his impressions about his team win over USA in Pool C in Izmir

Serbia Coach Sinisa Reljic:

“It's always good to start the championship with a win. We didn't play well but we won. Other teams in pool C played yesterday, this is our first game. I think it's an advantage to watch them yesterday. Also to play early in the first day could be another advantage. USA played better than yesterday. I hope game by game we will play much better. Tomorrow we will play against Canada. They are really strong team. I won't be easy but we will do our best.”

Serbia Captain Uros Kovacevic:

“This is our first match. Every team in our group played yesterday so to win this game was important to us. USA is a good team but we are the best team in the world. We are not afraid of any games. We proved today in first set that we are good team. These boys are great.”

USA Coach Peter Hanson:

“Congratulations to Serbia, they played very good match. They are very experienced and physical team. First two sets we played well enough. In the third set we got behind and could not come back. Serbia was stronger. Comparing with yesterday, we played better. Our performance was better. I think we made some steps forwards compared with yesterday’s match.”

USA Captain Matthew West:

“At today’s game we did the best of our abilities. We had opportunities to win the match but Serbia is a great team. I believe we can do our best for the next matches and improve.”
