Anti-doping education outreach programme gains momentum at U21 Championship

The project was introduced to educate young players and their entourage to the dangers of doping.

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 13, 2013 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in collaboration with the FIVB Heroes project and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conducted an anti-doping outreach programme at the FIVB Mens’ Under 21 World Championship in Izmir and Ankara in Turkey.

Participation in the programme was open to volleyball players, members of their medical and technical staff, team managers and coaches. Over the two days, in Izmir and Ankara, two doctors from the Turkish National Anti-doping Organisation were on hand to answer questions.

The project also provided medical delegates from the Federation and the FIVB with an opportunity to meet players and their entourage face-to-face. In all there were 94 athletes that participated in the WADA Quiz, accompanied by their team managers and team doctors.

The pilot programme was launched at the FIVB Boys’ Under 19 World Championship that took place in Tijuana (Mexico) in July this year.
