China win gold beating Japan 3-0 at Women’s U20 World Championship

China Ting Zhu, MVP of the championship, scores a point opening the block of Japan Misaki Yamauchi

Brno, Czech Republic, June 30, 2013 – The gold medal at the Women’s U20 World Championship goes to China, which was missing it since their first victory in 1995. This is the 11th medal for China in this category age. They beat Japan in straight sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) completing an outstanding series of eight 3-0 matches out of eight games played, a 24-0 sets record which underlines the amazing performance of Jiande Xu’s team. Japan could not resist to the attack of the Chinese ironclad.

In front of 4,000 enthusiastic spectators at Kajot arena, the two teams offered a great volleyball show, with outstanding defences from both side. Japan was never too close to China, despite their similar playing system. Attack, pass, block, serve, in any fundamental China was superior. Japan never gave up, trying to use all their weapon along the 9-meter available at the net. But they had to face the incredible power of Ting Zhu, MVP of the championship, who scored other 26 points in this match becoming the best scorer of the event with 167 points paired with Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez of Dominican Republic. Zhu eventually closed the match ball with a block, her last point which ended a fantastic Sunday night in Brno.
