We need excellent team spirit for the round of 16, Turkey captain says

Turkey captain Damla Cakiroglu enjoyed a rest day on Tuesday as coach Gökhan Edman tested different line-ups. However, she looks forward for the next stage of the competition.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 25, 2013 – Turkey eased past Algeria 25-18, 25-14, 25-15 in Tuesday’s second match at Brno’s Vodova sports hall. Turkey finish on top of Pool D with a perfect 4-0 win-loss ratio. We expect a tough match for the round of 16, Turkey coach said.

Turkey coach Gökhan Edman: I anticipated an easier match versus Algeria than yesterday against Egypt. Now the tournament will start again. We will play against a strong team from Pool C. There is no easy opponent in this group. We imagine a tough match for the round of 16.

Turkey captain Damla Cakiroglu: Pool phase is over. We played some good volleyball. The key to advance to the finals will be high motivation, fighting spirit and an excellent team spirit.

Algeria coach Saidani Aimed Eddine: After Monday’s loss versus Italy, I tried to prepare my players mentally. It worked quite well. We are still improving.

Algeria captain Sarah Akroun: I think we showed a good reaction against a big team like Turkey. We are happy for this. We will try to do our best Wednesday against Brazil.
