Nigeria surprised us, says Algeria coach

We are very happy and very proud of us. It was a very hard match but we succeeded, said Algeria captain Sarah Akroun.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 22, 2013 – Algeria and Nigeria both booked their first points today at 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic. Two sets down, Algeria came from behind to beat Nigeria 3-2. In the third set, my players started to listen, explained Algeria coach Saidani Aimed Eddine.

Algeria coach Saidani Aimed Eddine: The Nigerian team surprised us in the first two sets. They were very motivated and strong but after that, my team changed the approach. My players started to listen to my tactics and it worked.

Algeria captain Sarah Akroun: We are very happy and very proud of us. It was a very hard match but we succeeded.

Nigeria coach Sergey Ovechkin: We won the first two sets but then lost our focus. This is sport. However, in every match my team gains a lot of experience, it is still a learning process for us. Therefore, I see also positive issues in this loss because day after day we learn and play better.

Nigeria captain Mercy Promise: After the first two sets, everything changed. We tried to fight but we lost at the end. It just happened.
