Experiments give Mozaffari excellent result

The good serves of Iran led to 14 blocks against Argentina

Tijuana, Mexico, July 5, 2013 – Coach Iraj Mozaffari used two new starters in the semifinal match against Argentina and the risky moves proved to be the right ones as opposite Javad Hekmati was a big offensive contributor with 17 points and second setter Moein Moeinifar did an excellent job with a balanced distribution and good selection.

The effective floating serves resulted in fourteen blocks and now Iran will play the winner of the match between Russia and Cuba.

Mohammadjavad Manavinezhad, captain of Iran: “Argentina played the first set as a professional team. Then we fought harder in the next sets to obtain this big victory. Congratulations to Argentina’s number 10 (Nicolas Lazo) and number 2 (Brian Melgarejo) who are excellent attackers. I think our good serves were the key for us. Now this one is finished and we have to think about the next match.”

Matias Miranda, captain of Argentina: “It was a great match we are not leaving with our heads down. We are not sad but a little bit disappointed. Now we have to go for a position as high as we can.”

Iraj Mozaffari, coach of Iran: “I consulted with my assistants about using the second setter (Moeinifar) and number 1 (Hekmadi) as starters for the first time, and it resulted in both cases. Argentina’s setter did a terrific job and we were not able to stop number 10 (Lazo) and number 2 (Melgarejo) as we wanted. Our team was a little bit tired from the trips to Mexicali back and forth and the hot weather in Mexicali. Our serves were the difference to start everything for us and it is our best technique. The Argentinean coach is very clever and did the right moves. It is very difficult to coach at this level because some days the teams play very high and some other very low.”

Julian Alvarez, coach of Argentina: “I am very sad because we could have won the match. Sometimes you win the match and sometimes you lose. Today we lost because we let the other team to win. We couldn’t close the third set. I hope we can improve our performance in the upcoming matches. You fall but you need to get up.”
