Nice and easy day for coach Karikov

Russian coach Alexander Karikov let his bench players do most of the job against Rwanda

Tijuana, Mexico, June 30, 2013 – It was time for coach Alexander Karikov to relax and give playing time to many of his bench players and do some experiments for the future.

As result of that Pavel Pankov played most of the time as opposite for Russia and the rest of the starting squad received rest for most part of the contest against Rwanda.

Victor Poletaev, captain of Russia: “Today most of the players who have not played that much received the chance to do it and some other rested. The guys with less experience received the opportunity and they did well.”

Jacques Iradukunda, captain of Rwanda:
“I think the most important thing was the experience we got playing against a team like Russia. We did our best and enjoyed the match.”

Alexander Karikov, coach of Russia: “
Today I changed number 11 our setter (Pankov) to play as an opposite because I think that will be his position in the future. I did that thinking about his future as a player. Regarding Rwanda, I think African teams have made a lot of progress since I was in Sudan eight years ago. As of now, Rwanda is a competitive team.”

Jean Marie Vianney, coach of Rwanda: “First, congratulations to Russia and second, the result is normal against a team as strong as they are. We learned a bit from the match. Our performance was not bad compared to Russia. As a coach I am satisfied.”
