Iranian coach predicts three semifinalists

Russia made a good first impression with a powerful performance against Iran

Tijuana, Mexico, June 28, 2013 – Russian coach Alexander Karikov was not inclined to make any predictions after the impressive debut of his team at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship.

On the other hand his colleague from Iran, Iraj Mozaffari rated Russia, China and his Iran team as solid candidates to be among the final four sides contending for the title of the 2013 edition of the age-group event.

Alexander Karikov, coach of Russia: “We won today 3-0 and who knows what is going to happen tomorrow. At this age-group category you can go down all of a sudden because the boys don’t have the strong psychology. We played very good today and Iran is a good team with many players with good future.”

Iraj Mozaffari, coach of Iran: “I lost today but we played better than yesterday when we won. I am only a little bit angry because the boys were afraid of the big name of Russia as a major power of volleyball. Other than that I think Iran, China and Russia will be in the semifinals. I still have not seen Brazil.”

Victor Poletaev, captain of Russia: “It was a heavy match for us, very intense. We found the road to success using our serves. Iran has very good players.”

Mohammad Javad, captain of Iran: “The match was an experience for us because you don’t play your best every day. If you don’t play good you can’t get a good result. As Iranian men we are going to be ready to battle in our next match.”
