Bulgaria come from behind to overpower Colombia

The key moment of the match came at 11-6 in the fourth set when Bulgaria made a remarkable comeback from 6-11 to 27-25.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 28, 2013 – Bulgaria came from behind to defeat Colombia in Friday’s last match of the classification round 9-16. Colombia led 2-1 and 11-6 in the fourth set but could not pull clear. Bulgaria showed remarkable fighting spirit to make a dazzling comeback.

Best scorers of tonight’s match were Mira Todorova for Bulgaria and Ivonne Daniela Montavo for Colombia with 21 points each. Despite of their supremacy in terms of points (109-85), the Colombians eventually suffered an indigestive 2-3 loss.

The key moment of the match came at 11-6 in the fourth set. At that time of the match, Colombia easily controlled the game with a 2-1 set lead and a five-point advantage. However, Mira Todorova hammered her team back on track to postpone the final decision about today’s winner into the fifth set. The Europeans quickly took command and never looked back (15-11).

Bulgaria face Peru in Saturday’s 9-13 classification game while Colombia battle with Mexico in the 13-16 bracket.
