Iran’s Mozaffari speaks high about Finland’s defense

Iran's coach Iraj Mozaffari admitted Finland was a very difficult opponent

Tijuana, Mexico, June 27, 2013 – Iran’s coach Iraj Mozaffari was not surprised at all for the quality of volleyball played by opponent Finland and praised the defensive ability of the Nordic team.

Mozaffari commented about Finland’s low number of errors, something he considered a rarity at this age-group level.

Iraj Mozaffari, coach of Iran: “I talked with my staff and my captain about how difficult this match was going to be due to the defensive qualities of Finland. And it was as we expected. We played two great first and second sets and then Finland raised its game. Normally at this level the players make a lot of mistakes but they are very consistent.”

Pertti Honkanen, coach of Finland: “It was like David against Goliath but the stronger won this time. It was a match of up and downs and we didn’t know much about Iran but were able to make adjustments. They had a great attitude during the whole match and dominated with their strength in the fifth set.”

Mohammad Javad, captain of Iran:
“We played as a one man in the fifth set. That was the key. Finland play excellent defense and it was a very difficult win for us. The first two sets we played very well but the inexperience caused us to make many errors in the next two sets.”

Sakari Makinen, captain of Finland:
“I am not very happy with our performance in the first two sets but we were able to come back and fight. It was a pretty good first game for us.”
