Governor of Baja California praises FIVB efforts


The Governor of Baja California Jose Guadalupe Osuna lauded FIVB and Mexican sport authorities for the support to the Boys' U19 World Championship in Tijuana and Mexicali

Tijuana, Mexico, February 15, 2013 – The Governor of Baja California, Jose Guadalupe Osuna, praised the joint efforts of FIVB, the sport authorities of Mexico and the Organising Committee in the working process towards the Boys’ U19 Volleyball World Championship.

The top dignitary of the state of Baja California expressed his points of view during a press conference to officially launch the 20-team event to be held in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali from June 27 to July 7.

“Once again Baja California will be hosting a world-class volleyball competition and we all are very proud to be the site of such prestigious event,” Osuna stated. “We really appreciate the strong dedication of the organizing committee and the unique support of FIVB and the sport authorities of Mexico”.

Carlos Padilla, president of the Mexican Olympic Committee, and Jesus Mena, Director of the National Sport Council, also attended the ceremony along with Saul Castro Verdugo, FIVB Executive Vice President and Director of Baja California Sport and Physical Culture Institute.

On behalf of the Mexican Volleyball Federation, its president Ismael Acosta welcomed all the attendants and the media while saying this will be a very special year for the country’s national teams in the youth and junior levels.

“To host this world championship is a great honor for our country,” Acosta said. “This year our national age-group teams will participate in four different world class competitions which is something historic.”

The NORCECA Confederation will be represented by teams from Cuba, Mexico and the United States of America.

Argentina, Brazil and Chile are the qualified sided from South America with Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Rwanda the African teams already with berths.

China, Iran, Japan and South Korea earned their tickets at the Asian Youth Championship while the six berths granted to Europe will be determined by mid-April through the CEV Continental Championship.
