Terrific Turkey clinch second win after comfortable battle against Chinese Taipei

Turkey are on cloud nine after beating Chinese Taipei 3-0 to capture their straight two wins in Pool D.

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, July 27, 2013 – Reigning champions and world No.4 Turkey continued their remarkable run in the Girls’ U18 World Championship at the Liptapanlop Hall after pulling off a sensational straight-set 25-17 25-16 25-23 win in their Pool D clash on Saturday.

Small-built Chinese Taipei, whose height average is 170cm against the challengers’ 181cm, started nervously in their first match in the top-flight competition, while Turkey, outclassing Italy 3-1 in their previous match, played up to their level.

Ada Germen and Su Zent remained major forces to be reckoned with in the Turkish side, while Chinese Taipei was strengthened by Tseng Wan Ling. Turkey regained the upper hand from the beginning of the first set. With Germen and Humay Topaloglu penetrating the Chinese Taipei’s defence with their exceptional spikes, Turkey had no problem to wrap up the set 25-17.

The second set turned out to be one-sided as Turkey marched on their superb form, while Chinese Taipei dropped from their best form to go down tamely 16-25.

Turkey remained on course in the third set, which they raced to 23-20 lead. Chinese Taipei gradually pulled their game together to reduce the gap 22-23 and hold it 23-23. However, they just let the set win slip through their fingers when they came up with serving and attacking mistakes to cost them dear with the loss in the crucial set 23-25 and the match.

Su Zent emerged as the top scorer for Turkey after scoring 16 points, while Chen Tzu Ya led Chinese Taipei with 12 points.
