Egypt to meet neighbours Tunisia on opening day of Girls Youth African Championship

The coaches of Rwanda, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria are ready for the competition

Cairo, Egypt, March 24, 2013 – Egypt meets Tunisia in a strong North African clash on the opening day of the 2013 Girls Youth African Nations Championship at the Egyptian Army Hall in Cairo on Monday.

In the day’s other match, Algeria will face Rwanda.

The drawing of lots was held in the Baron Hotel in Cairo in the presence of CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani, CC President and CAVB Vice President Idriss Dokony, Referee Delegate Abdelmajeed Djirad, SOC Delegate Jappo Mango, Egyptian Volleyball Federation President Ali El Sergani, Local Organizing Committee President Abdel Hamid Elwassimy and CAVB Technical Director Howyda Mondy.

The competition which acts as a qualifier for the FIVB Girls World Championship features four teams: hosts and defending champions Egypt, previous runners-up Algeria, Tunisia and dark horses Rwanda.

The top three teams will qualify for the World Championship to be held in Thailand this summer.

"My main target here is to qualify for the World Championship," Rwanda Coach Paul Bitok said after the drawing of lots. "We want to continue our golden era after our men’s Under-21 and Boys Under-19 teams secured their tickets to prestigious FIVB competitions earlier this year.”
