Vietnam and Iran succeed in day six playoffs

Iran outlasted Mongolia, earning a 3-1 victory in 111 minutes

Shuangliu, China, October 17, 2012 – Vietnam and Iran defeated their opponents in the 9th to 12th place classification playoff on day six of the 2012 Asian Youth Girls’ Championship at the Shuangliu Sports Centre.

Vietnam succeeded in straight sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-13) against Australia in the opening match of day six. The Chinese coach of Vietnam, Chen Gang, relied on a strong game at the left wing with N.T.T. Huong at the helm. Captain L.T. Hong supported her with a strong middle that broke down the blocks of their opponents’ taller defenders. Vietnam likewise gained an advantage in momentum with 12 service aces, while the Australians suffered with their persistent errors.

Iran likewise succeeded on Wednesday, but dropped a set to Mongolia, winning 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-22). The teams contested battle in a total of 111 minutes of play, with Iran playing their strong left side to good advantage. Mongolia tried to keep pace, but Iran showed more endurance in sustaining their firepower and possessed better control of their endgame. Talebi and Amini combined for 45 points in their third win of the tournament.

On Friday, Iran will face Vietnam  at 12:00 local time. Mongolia will battle it out with Australia at 10:00 to determine the final 9th-12th ranking.
