Japan + 3 Asian teams best ranked in the Asian Continental Championship (Thailand, Korea, Kazakhstan) + 4 best World ranked teams (Dominican Republic, Poland, Puerto Rico, Serbia).
Best World ranked teams: 2 best ranked teams from Europe, 1 from Norceca, 1 from South America or Africa (after Peru and Kenya withdrawal, FIVB has granted Puerto Rico the place available).
The 4 Olympic berths are assigned to the best 3 teams plus the best Asian team.
