Bonitta: We fought till the end

Poland's Katarzyna Skowronska receives
Marco BONITTA (ITA) - Poland coach

On the match:

"It was a very strong, emotional match. We tried, we fought until the end. We knew for us it was important to win."

On dropping out of the Olympics:

"We finish our Olympics Games, but I'm happy because my team played well. Unfortunately at critical points we didn't play at the same level."

On the future of the team:

"This team for me has a future. This is the first Olympics (for Poland Women's Volleyball) in forty years and it's difficult. The next time will be better I think."

"I'm happy (with the team). If they improve their play in critical situations I think they can win important matches."

On the Olympic experience:

"Every match has a different story. I think we played well in this tournament. Against Cuba we didn't play so well but we now know the power of Cuba. Then the second match against China we were close to a tie-break. The third we played Japan with no courage in the first and second sets but after that we did better and today we played our match."

LANG Ping (CHN) - USA coach

On Sunday's victory:

"Before the game we knew Poland would be a very strong team, especially after Marco (BONITTA (ITA), Poland coach) took over. They are one of the top teams in Europe. We wanted to take this opportunity to play well to prepare for the quarterfinals. We're not playing consistently."

On using different starters:

"All the players have different physical conditions. Some feel better, some feel tired. I have to balance them, some bench players haven't played though and they are in great physical condition. The USA team always play as a team. We tried to avoid our weaknesses."

Joanna KACZOR (POL)

On the match:

"It was a tough game, we put our heart into it. But we made more mistakes than the USA."

Lindsey BERG (USA)

On the match:

"We are happy to go into the quarterfinals with this win. We knew that they (Poland) are a tough team and they would come out and play their hearts out, because they needed a win to advance (to the quarterfinals)."

"There are still many things for us to improve. In this game we played up and down and that's what we have to improve on in the next game. We're going to try and continue this momentum (into the quarterfinals)."

On the new ball:

"The most difficult thing is that we had little time to prepare with this new ball. The last tournament we played with the old ball and now we have this new one. Definitely for jump serves and passing the ball does float more, and it's been more difficult than the other ball."
