Riley SALMON (USA)
On the match: "I thought we came out of the first set tense. Coach (Hugh McCutcheon) told us to relax and play our game. I think we first started (relaxed) in the fourth set, carried it over to the fifth set and won the game. I'm happy to play against them (Serbia), they are very good competitors."
Nikola GRBIC (SRB) - captain
On the match: "We prepared all summer for this Olympics, unfortunately we had some injuries and we had to adapt. I think we played well and the whole team reacted positively. In my career, sometimes one ball decides who wins. I've had balls that win games for me, but unfortunately today they (USA) won those balls. They (USA) played better volleyball tonight."
Hugh McCUTCHEON (NZL) - USA head coach
On the match: "We knew it was going to be a tough match. We played Serbia twice this year, the first time they kicked us, the second time we beat them, but it was a very close match. This was a battle. When Serbia had momentum, we managed to show composure to control that momentum. To beat them today was a wonderful achievement, although we won't get to enjoy it more because we have to focus on the next matches. We have a lot of respect for Serbia, not only just the way they played but also the way they compete."
On his feelings after an emotional few weeks: "Right now I'm happy that we won. When I'm at Volleyball, all I'm thinking of is Volleyball. I'm here trying to coach and trying to win. I'm trying to compartmentalise all other parts of my life right now."
Igor KOLAKOVIC (MNE) - Serbia head coach
On the match: "I believed we shall long have regrets after this match. We were close to a win and to enter the semi-finals, but USA played very well at the end of each set, especially in the second and the fifth sets and were very concentrated."
"We played as we wished, this match is what we wanted since we qualified for this tournament, but the result was not as we wished. I hope my team forgets this as soon as possible. The next few days in Beijing will be very difficult for us."
