Trujillo, Peru, July 28, 2011—On the final day of the second round of competition, Poland earned a victory over Egypt 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15) in a Pool H matchup of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru 2011.
With five points in the second round, Poland finished tied with Serbia for second place in Pool H. Egypt did not earn any points in the second round.
Ewa Sliwinska led Poland with 15 points. Yasmin Hussein had 12 points for Egypt.

Egypt led early in the first set, but Poland caught up to tie the score at nine, and held the lead the rest of the way. Ewelina Mikolajewska paced Poland with five points. The taller Poland squad scored four points off of blocks in the opening set, compared to one for Egypt.
Poland played well early in the second set, behind the serving of Justyna Sosnowska. Poland only needed 20 minutes to defeat Egypt. Ewa Sliwinska led Poland with five points in the second set. Through the first two sets, Poland scored seven points on serves, while Egypt did not record any.
With a comfortable two-set lead, Poland pulled several of their starters from the match in the third set, including leading scorer Zuzanna Czyznielewska, in order to give the reserves playing experience. There were several plays in the third set where the Poland players appeared to lose the ball in the sunlight that shined through the windows of Gran Chimu Hall. Aya Elshamy led Egypt with seven points in the third set.
After losing the third set, Poland put the starters back in for the fourth set. Egypt still scored the first ten points of the fourth set, as Poland made multiple setting errors. With Zuzanna Czyznielewska serving, Poland came roaring back to tie the set at 13, and then regain the lead.
All teams will have an hour-and-a-half to train on July 29, and will return to competition on July 30 in Lima.
