Lima, Peru, July 26, 2011 - The first match of the Pool E in the second round at the FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship Peru 2011 ended with a victory for United States as they defeated Dominican Republic 25-11, 25-15, 25-23 in the third match played today at the Eduardo Dibos Gymnasium in Lima on Tuesday. The match lasted two hours an three minutes with a 56-minute power outage.
The top players of United States were Kelly Reeves with 14 points in the match, next to Moneshia Simmons with 11 and Haley Eckerman and Carly Wopat with 10 points. Dominican Republic's Ana Binet was her team's top scorer with 11 points in the match, next to Gabriela Reyes' five points. The United States held a 12-2 block advantage and 6-1 margin in service aces.
The United States are now 1-0 with three points in the top half Pool E second round and 4-0 overall in the tournament, while Dominican Republic are 1-0 in the pool and 2-2 overall.

The beginning of the first set was very hard-fought. Although The Dominican Republic’s libero Brenda Castillo had very good receptions, they got too many straight attack mistakes and the Americans took advantage of them. At the first technical time out, the Americans were ahead 8-5. After that, eight straight points were scored by the Americans. The players Reeves, Simmons and Wopat each scored four points in the set. With the eight mistakes by the Dominican Republic, United States easily won the first set 25-11 in 21 minutes.
In the second set, the Americans had four players with 5 points, Haleigh Hampton (five points in the set), Haley Eckerman (four points in the set), Kelly Reeves (four points in the set) and Carly Wopat (three points in the set) while Dominicans had just two with the same score, Elizabeth Martinez (five points in the set) and Ana Yorkira Binet (three points in the set). The first technical time out was similar as the first set with United States leading 8-6. Dominican Republic could not get better and with the great defense by the Americans, they lost the second set 25-15 favoring the United States in 21 minutes.
Dominican Republic improved their game in the third set. They were about to get into the first technical time out with the advantage, but they could not as United States climbed in front 8-7. However, the Americans slowed down their strength and with eight points by Ana Binet (six points in the set), they went to the second technical time out with the advantage of two points (16-14). In a very dramatic end of the set, the Americans with an inspired Kelly Reeves (six points in the set), beat Dominican Republic 25-23 with seven of the final eight points after the outage, causing the set to last 81 minutes.
