Lima, Peru, July 26, 2011 - The first match of the Pool G in the second round at the FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship Peru 2011 ended with a 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 25-17 victory for Cuba over Korea. The victory marked Cuba's first win in the 2011 tournament edition, while Korea is now 1-3 overall in the tournament.
The top scorers from Cuba for this match were Yunieska Robles with 21 points in the set, next to Sulian Matienzo with 18 points. For Korea, the top scorers were Ji-Soo Kim with 15 points in the match, next to You-Jeong Choi with 13 points. Cuba held an 11-5 advantage in blocks to offset Korea's 9-7 margin in service aces.

The first set started in a good way for Cuba, but Korea started to improve their game and reached a tie score (7-7). However, Cuba got the ball back and Cheila Cardona´s spike (four points in the set) insured the lead at the first technical time out. After this, Cuba was ahead of the Asian team, but Korea started to make better blocks and the score was tied again at 15-15. Young-Eun Jang´s spike (two points in the set) was harder than the Cuban blocking and the second technical time out was for Korea. Then, the Cuban block forced Korea head coach Gi-Ju Park to ask for the team's first time out at 19-19. The set was tight and Korean team fought until the set ended in favor for Cuba. Regla Gracia´s spike (four points in the set) insured the 25-23 in 25 minutes.
The beginning of the second set was for Korea. The first technical time out came with a difference of three points in favor of the Asian team, thanks to Ji-Soo Kim´s blocking (four points in the set). In this moment, Cuba´s game started to improve and the difference got shorter to one point (10-9). Cuba´s attack improved and the second technical time out came to 16-15 to their favor. After this, Cuba seemed to freeze in the set because Korea moved ahead 22-16. This time, Korea won the set to 25-18 in 20 minutes.
At the third set, both teams were tight again. The Asian block improved and also the Cuban attack. At the first technical time out, the point difference was just one in favor to Korea. The score continued the same path until the second technical time out to 16-14, again in favor of the Asian team. At this time, Cuba started to improve their technique with blocks and spikes. The set was tied at 24, and Cuba got nervous. Regla Gracia´s spike (three points in the set) was harder and the set ended to 26-24 in 27 minutes for Cuba.
The fourth set had a good beginning for Cuba. At the first technical time out, Cuba got a stronger blocking that insured a partial winning score to 8-3 in favor of Cuba. At the second technical time out, Cuba´s game continued success and reached the technical timeout leading 16-8. The point difference increased to 10 because of the blocking mistakes of Korea. Regla Gracia´s spike (four points in the set) defined the set to 25-17 in 21 minutes.
