Team profile
The junior women's team of Serbia have participated at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships on three occasions. In 1997 in Gdansk, Poland, the side, playing under the flag of the former Yugoslavia, came ninth, and they repeated that feat in 1999 in Saskatoon, Canada. But the side surpassed themselves in 2005 n Ankara, Turkey to clinch silver.
The side have also participated at 13 European Championships winning two silver medals.
This generation of junior women has achieved outstanding results in the youth category as well, winning silver medals at the VIII European Championships played in 2009 in Rotterdam, and at the 2009 World Championships the same year in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Coach profile
Ratko Pavlicevic was a junior and senior national team player in the former Yugoslavia, but he also pursued his career abroad, having played in Belgium.
His coaching days began in 1997 when he acted as assistant coach to Jovica Cvetkovic at VC Crvena Zvezda. In 1999 and 2000, he was coach of the senior men’s squad for the same side, helping them win the National Cup. The following three years he spent abroad, coaching teams in Saudi Arabia and Cyprus. He returned to VC Crvena Zvezda in 2003 as assistant coach.
In 2004, he became the coach of the senior women’s team of VC Crvena Zvezda, and he remained in the position until present time. He has won two Championship titles and two National Cup titles with the girls in red-and-white.
Serbia will compete at the World Championships for the fourth time but it is the first under the Serbia banner.
