Tijuana, Mexico, July 24, 2009 – Poland crushed Kenya in straight sets 25-12, 25-5, 25-14 and will play against Thailand for the thirteenth position on Saturday.
Tamara Kaliszuk paced Poland with 14 points while Sylwia Pelc and Maja Tokarska added 12 and 10 respectively. Dorine Khaemba had seven points for Kenya.
Poland scored with five blocks and four aces en route to a lopsided win 25-12 over Kenya. The Poles led 8-5 and 16-8 at the pauses. Tamara Kaliszuk and Katarzyna Bryda led the offensive.
The second set took the same path with Poland maintaining the intensity to lead 8-3 and 16-3 at the arrival of the technical time-outs. The set finished 25-5 with a block executed by Pelc, the eighth by the Poles in the set.
Kenya battled in the early stages of the third set (8-7), but once again the taller Poles established their high blocking at the net to take the lead 16-13 and the match with a 25-14 victory finished by a strong spike by Kaliszuk.
