Chinese Taipei takes over the taller Netherlands

The shorter players of chinese Taipei defeated Netherlands

Mexicali, Mexico, July 22, 2009- The much shorter Chinese Taipei took over Netherlands in straight sets 25-19, 28-26, 25-20 in the third and last day of the second round pool E of the 2009 Women’s Junior World Championship held here at Auditorio del Estado Ciudad Deportiva hall in Mexicali, Mexico on Wednesday.
The victory improved Chinese Taipei record to 1-2 to finish third in pool E, while Netherlands dropped to 0-3 to finish fourth but both teams will play for the 5-8 positions.
The fantastic reception and quick setting of the short Chinese Taipei players disturbed the Netherlands players all through the match and prevented them from using their strategies.  The fantastic Taipei wing spiker Shih Ting Chen was the match star with her skillful spikes from all the net positions as she finished the match best scorer with impressive 21 points. Nicole Koolhaas was Netherland scorer (13).
Chinese Taipei team started the match with their main line up and they did the usual job through the key players specially Wei Wen Huang and Wan Ting Chen who were the best stars that allowed the Asian team to win the first set 25-19 through their quick attacks.
Netherlands improved their defense in the second set and started to use their tall centers for the quick attacks but the Taipei players detected that to block well and lead again all through to reach to 18-12 due to their efficient diggers. Again Netherlands tried to use the wing spikers Anne Buijs and Quirine Oosterveld and they succeeded to decrease the point deficit to 17-19. Again the problem in Netherlands team was the reception that allowed Taipei to lead 24-20. Buijs went to serve 5 spike services to make it 25-20 before Taipei returned back on time with the quick attacks of Wan Ting to catch the set 28-26.
The third set went the same and Taipei won easily 25-20 through the efficient spikes of Shih Ting.
