Tijuana, Mexico, July 22, 2009 – China swept Kenya 25-13, 25-13, 25-16 finishing atop of Pool G in the second round for the 9-to-12 positions.
Tao Liyun was the best scorer of the winners with 14 points. Yuan Caixia and Liu Xiaotong recorded 10 apiece. Bilha Chepkemboi paced Kenya with ten tallies.
Kenya started in front 2-0 via spikes of Makuto and Chepkemboi but that’s the only thing they did during the period leading to the first technical time-out. China led 13-6 and expanded the difference to 15-8 through a couple of spikes by Liu Xiaotong. The set maintained the same route with China serving and blocking towards a 25-13 victory with a spike by Yao Liyun.
China was in control since the start of the second and went to the pause with an 8-2 advantage based on their steady performance combined with errors by the opponent. Yao Li Yun propelled the attack of China to a 16-3 lead. The set finished 25-13 with Sun Mingjian and Yuan Caixia at full speed.
The third set was not different than the previous two. The Africans made a great effort to cross the 13-point frontier and they succeeded with Chepkemboi providing some leadership. Yao Li Yun and Yuan Caixia led China in the set 25-16 and to the victory.
