Lausanne, June 18, 2009 - The Drawing of Lots for the 2009 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship, which is scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 9 in Pune, India, was held today in India.

Defending champion Brazil was drawn into a difficult Pool D where they will play Russia, runner-up of the last edition, Poland and Canada. In order to win a fourth gold medal, the Brazilian team has already been training since March to prepare for this tournament.

Brazil head coach Percy Oncken, who led Brazil to gold at the last FIVB Junior World Championship in 2007 after beating Russia 3-0 in the final in Casablanca, Morocco, said he was pleased with the talented group of players he has to work with this year.

"We have so many good players working at our training center and another 11 players playing in great leagues such as the Superliga," Oncken said. "All the players are improving their games, and the winner is Brazilian Volleyball, which will gain yet another group of great players."

Iran, the bronze medalist in 2007, was drawn into an easier Pool B with China, Egypt (10th-place finisher in the last edition) and Belgium. Hosts India were put in Pool A with Tunisia, USA (7th) and Belarus, while Pool C consists of Greece, Cuba (8th), Argentina (5th) and France.
