Belarus Comes Back Versus Egypt

Belarus gets an attack past Egypt

PUNE, India (Aug. 6, 2009) - Having eliminated from the top two positions in FIVB Men's Junior World Championship Pool G in which France and Poland have already taken the top two positions, Belarus finished third in the group beating Egypt at 15-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17.

Egypt came fourth and last, losing all its three matches. In fact, Egypt has lost all its six matches it played so far from the beginning.

Belarus’ attack was not good. Only Pavel Audochanka collected 21 points out of 30 spikes. Belarus overall got 47 points in attack out of 99 attempts compared to Egypt which got 51 points out of 112 attacks. But Belarus did well in block getting 15 points and Pavel Audochanka stood out in block also and was the best scorer of the match. For Egypt Ahmed Mohamed got 15 points out of 27 attempts and Haikal Reda 14 out of 29 spikes.

Egypt’s game improved in the second phase and it fought well in every match. But it did not have the finish to emerge winner. It continued to plague by falling apart when under pressure. Today It made a rousing start, virtually outplaying Belarus in the first set in which the Belarus Assistant Coach said his team was sleeping. With 8-5 and 16-8 lead it looked as if Egypt was on its way to its first success. But that did not happen.

Belarus came back roaring in the second set with superb block and steady spiking. With Improved reception Belarus’ attack looked lethal. Belarus surged to 8-2 and then 16-10, giving no chance for Egypt to catch it. It was total rout for Egypt.

However, despite trailing 7-8 and 9-16 Egypt fought brilliantly with strong block. Egypt even went ahead to 23-22 and looked well to take the third set. But bad serve let down Egypt at this stage and Belarus won over extra points.

In the fourth set Belarus was shaky in the beginning and Egypt went for quick ball attack. Ahmed and Reda did some damage. But Belarus took a slender 8-7 lead and 16-13 later it surged ahead to wrap up the set and the match.
