Trujillo, Peru, July 28, 2011—Russia only needed one of the three possible points in the match against Serbia to secure Pool H. Russia earned two points by defeating Serbia 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11) in a Pool H matchup of the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru 2011.
Russia finished with eight points in the second round. Serbia will settle for second place in Pool H with five second-round points.
Natalia Malykh led Russia with 20 points. Ana Bjelica paced Serbia with 23 points. Serbia scored 21 points from blocks, compared to 11 for Russia.

Russia scored five of the first six points of the opening set, behind several powerful kills by Ekaterina Petrova. Neither team committed an opponent error through the first technical timeout. Serbia tied the game several times, but never managed to take the lead. Ekaterina Lavrova led Russia with seven points. Ana Bjelica had seven points for Serbia in the set.
Serbia played much better in the second set, scoring eight of the first 11 points. Danica Radenkovic set the ball well for Serbia. Maja Savic led Serbia with eight points. In the set, Serbia scored seven points from blocks, compared to one for Russia.
The third set tied was at six, but then Russia scored nine of the next 11 points to gain the lead. Ana Bjelica led Serbia with six points. After not even appearing in the first set, Natalia Malykh started the third set for Russia, and led all scorers with 10 points.
After the fourth set was tied at four, Serbia led the rest of the way. Busa Bianka paced Serbia with five points in the fourth set. Danica Radenkovic converted all five of her digs for Serbia.
Russia clinched Pool H simply by forcing a fifth set, but they still did not want to lose their final match in the second round. Russia looked motivated and was in control of the entire set. Natalia Malykh had five points for Russia in the final set.
All teams will have an hour-and-a-half to train on July 29, and return to competition on July 30 in Lima.
