October 19, 2010, Evigado, Colombia – Brazil's women's junior team reaffirmed their continental sovereignty as they secured victory at the 20th South American Junior Women's Volleyball Championship in Evigado, Colombia last Friday, beating Peru in straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-14).
It was Brazil's 16th title and with the win they secured qualification for the 2011 FIVB Women's Junior World Championship, to be held in Peru.
Ana Beatriz was one of Brazil's star players, consistently putting in solid performances throughout the tournament. "We played a good game," she said. "The Peruvian team gave a good performance and made it difficult at times, but we managed to do well. They are young and have a great future. Now we are going to enjoy the victory and celebrate the title."
Venezuela completed the podium as they edged the hosts 3-2 (25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 16-14) in the bronze-medal match. Despite their home support, the Colombians were had no answer to their opponents' offence and so ended their campaign in fourth place, followed by Argentina who beat Chile 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-11) for fifth. Uruguay, who failed to pick up a win at the competition, finished last.
