Wang Tin Chen (Taipei) penetrated the Netherlands block frequently

Mexicali, Mexico, July 25, 2009- Chinese Taipei fought for 4 sets to annihilate The much taller Netherlands 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22) in the 5th and 6th position match of the 2009 Women’s Junior World Championship held here at Auditorio del Estado Ciudad Deportiva hall in Mexicali, Mexico on Saturday.
Taipei finished the competition at the 5th position and Netherlands became 6th.
As usual the Chinese Taipei middle block Shih Ting Chen was the match star with her brilliant quick attacks that couldn’t be stopped by the Netherlands block. She was also the match scorer with 21 points. The Netherlands opposite Judith Blasjaar was the most outstanding player in her team scoring 18 points.
Netherlands started the match using their strong spike service to prevent the Chinese Taipei team from using their skills in the quick attacks by the net and on the other hand they used their tall blocker Nicole Koolhaas to score frequently above the Taipei blocker. They succeeded to lead 8-5 at the FTT before Taipei tried to return back to action but the strong Netherlands service didn’t allow them to go through. Netherlands controlled the net action completely and blocked well the Taipei’s big gun Shih Ting Chen to win the set 25-18.
Netherlands kept their momentum at the beginning of the second set using the block of Jeanine Stoeten and Koolhaas and also the strong hits of Anne Buijs to lead narrowly 8-7. As the service of Netherlands became not so strong, the Chinese Taipei team started to apply their strategy of the fast attacks by the net with the opposite Wan Ting Chen doing her regular role with her left hand spikes. Taipei recovered and succeeded to lead after the STT to finish the set 25-18.
Netherlands adjusted their defense to build up the attacks through Buija and Sharon Zuidema to lead 8-6. The Taipei team started to use their service as a weapon specially with the disturbance happening in their backline defense and thus they drew 12-12 before going ahead 16-14 at the STT. Taipei shorter players controlled completely the net action to win the set widely 25-18.
Taipei team pushed the game to their own strategy in the fourth set of the quick combinations using the center Shih Ting and the opposite Wan Ting. They also improved their reception to combat the strong Netherlands service. They succeeded to dominate all through the set until they won 25-22 and the match 3-1.
