Tijuana, Mexico, July 25, 2009 – Venezuela finished in the fifteenth position by defeating Kenya 25-20, 25-9, 19-25, 25-17.
Mariangel Perez, Wendy Romero and Roslandy Acosta led the winners with 19, 15 and 12 points respectively. Everlyne Makuto topped Kenya with 15 and Dorine Khaemba added 12.
Venezuela came from behind to take the first set 25-20 by the hand of Mariangel Perez who scored eight points in the frame. Kenya had leads of 8-7 and 16-12 at the technical time-outs but could not maintain the consistency and was victim of its own mistakes.
The second set was lopsided in favor of Venezuela. The South Americans dominated 8-2 and 16-3 at the mandatory breaks and established their blocking en route to a 25-9 win.
Venezuela led 8-6 in the third set but Kenya came back on top 16-13 at the second technical time-out. This time they didn’t let escape the advantage and won 25-19 with the attack and enthusiasm of Captain Makuto.
